Since kratom first debuted in the United States, Mississippi was one of several states to take a hard stance against this Southeast Asian plant. Legislators banned it in dozens of cities and counties a few years ago but didn’t outright ban it across the state. Kratom’s future is once again in the spotlight as legislators started a new round of debates that’s brought out proponents and opponents voicing their opinions.

After passionate debate from both sides, it was good news for kratom supporters. Mississippi lawmakers decided not to ban or regulate kratom. The bills never made it past committee, and that means that a statewide ban can’t be enacted this year. It can’t be considered again until the 2021 legislative session.

Yet, another victory for kratom lovers!
