Although kratom is legal at the federal level in the United States, some states, cities, and counties have a ban on it. Wisconsin is one state where you can’t purchase, possess, or use kratom. Bans like this led to the formation of the American Kratom Association (AKA). The AKA was formed in 2014 to fight the type of misinformation that led to the Wisconsin ban. The group is committed to providing factual information and ensuring that kratom is accessible to consumers.

New Push

The 2023 Assembly Bill 393 sought to legalize kratom with restrictions in place. The bill, which was introduced to the Wisconsin State Assembly, aimed to remove kratom’s main alkaloids, mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine, from the scheduled list of banned substances. This move would effectively decriminalize kratom in the state.
