Another day, another kratom ban in Louisiana. The state is known for its lukewarm reception toward the Southeastern Asian plant. Over the past several years, various cities, counties, and parishes have banned kratom. As a whole, state lawmakers have considered prohibiting kratom entirely. While that’s under discussion, the city of Zachary officially put kratom on its no-no list, meaning residents can’t access it. Zachary Kratom Ban
Located near Baton Rouge, Zachary has joined plenty of its counterparts in banning its residents from accessing kratom products. In 2023, the city’s council members adopted an ordinance prohibiting the selling and possessing of these products. Various state government officials, law enforcement, and erroneous news reports swayed the Zachary city council by alleging kratom is dangerous. Despite plenty of evidence that’s not the case, many people still believe the misinformation.
Reaction to the Ban
While some people support the ban and think that Zachary residents shouldn’t have kratom products, plenty of others don’t think this is the direction the city should take. They believe these products are advantageous to plenty of people. However, detractors have drowned out their voices. Instead, they think that people need the facts, which is why the American Kratom Association has stood up to tout the benefits of the plant. They also think kratom has gained a bad rap due to a few negative anecdotes.

While state lawmakers have tried numerous times to ban kratom, they have been unsuccessful. As of late, they’ve left the decision up to local governments and parishes.
