Kratom is super popular in the Czech Republic, but there’s only one problem – the country’s legislators don’t quite know what to do with it. At this point, the government must decide whether to leave kratom alone, ban it, or regulate it. As expected, there are people on all sides of the issue. While the World Health Organization voted not to enact an international ban on kratom, the Czech Republic is working on its own decision.

While opponents call for kratom removal from stores and vending machines, the World Health Organization (WHO) decided that wouldn’t be the case. In 2021, the WHO’s expert committee chose not to pursue an international ban against kratom. The committee cited there was not enough evidence to do so. However, some countries made kratom illegal, but not the Czech Republic.
Current Status of Kratom
As it stands now, kratom is pretty much unregulated in the Czech Republic. That’s part of the reason it’s so popular, and Czechs can’t seem to get enough. As a result, it’s sold virtually anywhere, including in vending machines and near schools. Consequently, people of all ages can get their hands on kratom products, including minors. Unsurprisingly, many people don’t like that and believe the law should do something to prevent kids and teens from accessing the Southeast Asian plant.
Push for Regulation
Kratom proponents want kratom regulated in the Czech Republic because they consider it a gray area. Right now, how manufacturers advertise kratom products differs from their actual use. Legislators agree with the calls for regulation and think it’s in the best interest of consumers, especially kids and teenagers. They believe a regulated market would ensure only safe products and limit minors’ ability to get their hands on these products. Other European countries are looking at the Czech Republic to see how things pan out.
