Ban Discussion
In early December, the D’Iberville City Council discussed possibly banning kratom products. Police Chief Shannon Nobles decided to research kratom after more businesses sought approval to sell products. According to Chief Nobles, he discovered that there was no kratom regulation in place, which to him meant that anybody could buy it. He felt that with few established policies, it could mean trouble for residents, especially minors. Therefore, Chief Nobles feels the only appropriate solution is to keep kratom away from everybody.
Kratom Workshop
By mid-December, D’Iberville held a kratom workshop for folks to further discuss the future of kratom. At the meeting, attendees discussed the pros and cons of selling kratom and whether the city should regulate or ban all products. While many spoke out on the positive aspects of these items, others took the opposite approach. There have also been differing opinions on the next step with kratom. Some believe that simply putting more regulations in place will keep kratom safe and accessible to people. Others say that kratom does not belong in D’Iberville and should be outright banned.
