Only a handful of states have sought to regulate kratom, and now, two more states are hoping to do the same. Missouri and Colorado have bills heading to the desks of the states’ governors. While each law is different, they would move kratom forward in each state. Here is more information about the pending kratom laws in Missouri and Colorado. 
Background 
While kratom is perfectly legal in Missouri and Colorado, lawmakers decided to step up to the plate since the market is unregulated. Colorado Bill 
Under Colorado’s Senate bill, lawmakers would direct “the Department of Revenue to study the feasibility of regulating kratom products, processors and retailers,” according to Natural Products Insider. By early 2023, the department would provide lawmakers with a report detailing which state agencies would “regulate the manufacture, sale and possession of kratom.” Additionally, legislators want more info about whether to enact age restrictions and the possible implementation of a program to test kratom products.
Missouri Bill
On the other hand, Missouri’s bill wants to take more action and goes beyond simply studying kratom. The state’s House bill looks to establish “labeling requirements including listing alkaloid amounts.” Further, the bill would put protections in place to prevent adulteration. Manufacturers caught adding authorized substances to products could face serious consequences. Also, Missouri’s law would make it illegal for vendors to sell kratom to anyone under 18.
