It’s no secret that more and more people are turning to kratom daily. Kratom products are popping up everywhere, and people continue to rave about the Southeastern Asian plant. It’s also no secret that different areas across the U.S. have banned and continue to ban kratom. One of the latest is Ascension Parish in Louisiana. Here’s the latest on what is going on with kratom in this parish.
What’s Going on in Ascension Parish? 
During an August 4 meeting, the Ascension Parish Council introduced an ordinance that would “regulate the sale and use” of kratom, according to WAFB. Both opponents and proponents of kratom spoke at the meeting and shared their experiences and stories they’ve heard from others. Some people said they don’t mind kratom and have nothing against it but don’t want it sold in their parish. 
AKA Speaks Up 
As always, the American Kratom Association (AKA) spoke out about the possible ban in the parish. One step the AKA took was to post the meeting on its Facebook page to highlight the issue and let others know what is happening. The AKA is well-known for pushing back when cities and states try to ban kratom. The group’s primary focus is on advocacy and spreading the truth about kratom so even more people can benefit from the plant.
What’s Next?
While the ban now is just a proposal, there’s no guarantee of whether it will pass or not. The next meeting is on August 18, where council members will further discuss and vote on the ordinance. It is also yet to be seen whether the parish council will outright ban kratom or only regulate it. The verdict is still out.
