The U.S. Kratom Explosion
Over the past few years, kratom has become one of the most popular products on the market. It was only a few years ago that most Americans had never even heard of kratom. Now, however, these same people can’t get enough. Since 2016, the U.S. has imported kratom at an increasing rate. Let’s take a look at the numbers and some of the factors driving the record-setting growth.
Kratom Explosion
When kratom first came to the forefront in the U.S. in 2016, the nation imported more than 4 million pounds of kratom from Indonesia. In 2017, that number jumped to almost 7.5 million pounds. By 2018, the number increased to more than 8.4 million pounds and went up again in 2019 to more than 9.3 million pounds. Last year, kratom was up to 10.2 million pounds. Over the past four years, the amount of exports from Indonesia has more than doubled.
Customer Growth
All of this translates to the fact that the number of customers has jumped exponentially. In 2016, there were about 5.1 million kratom consumers. By last year, the number was approximately 12.9 million. More and more people are giving kratom a try and loving the experience. Kratom’s popularity just can’t be stopped!
Exponential Reasons
Why has kratom gained so many followers over the past few years? One reason is that it’s easier to get a hold of since products are more readily available. Kratom is legal across most of the U.S. despite multiple attempts by FDA and DEA to ban the plant. Though they have tried, these agencies have been unable to thanks to rousing public support. As more people are willing to try kratom, word of mouth spreads, meaning more people want to give it a shot for themselves.
