The Texas Kratom Consumer Act Passes
The Lone Star state is taking an open approach when it comes to kratom. Texas is now the latest state to pass the Kratom Consumer Act. What does this mean? Essentially, Texas gives kratom the green light to be completely legal. In turn, consumers can access products safely and more conveniently. Kratom and Texans now go hand in hand.
Making its Way Through
The Texas Kratom Consumer Act had to make its way through the legislative process, and it did. A the end of April, the Texas House of Representatives passed the act, and a few weeks later, the Texas Senate passed the bill unanimously. Additionally, it considers all aspects of kratom, from manufacturing to distribution to the selling of products. Subsequently, the Texas Kratom Consumer Act protects products, processors, manufacturers, and of course, consumers. The law takes effect on September 1, 2021.
The Labeling Aspect
Another significant aspect of the Kratom Consumer Act is the labeling requirements that it sets in place. For years, kratom supporters have demanded more stringent requirements, and the bill agrees. Products require appropriate labeling with control batch numbers, ingredient lists, dosing guidelines, and serving sizes. Under the act, kratom products are only legal in the state if they include appropriate serving sizes.
What Kratom Cannot Do
The legislation also details what kratom cannot and should not do, including containing adulterants that affect purity, potency, and quality. Products also can’t include any controlled substances, more than 2% of 7-hydroxymitragynine, or synthetic alkaloids. Additionally, businesses cannot sell kratom to anybody under 18. The legislation stipulates fines for anybody who violates the act.
