It’s Complicated: The Kratom-Mississippi Relationship
When it comes to kratom and Mississippi – let’s just say that the relationship is complicated. Although most of the United States is down with kratom, the Magnolia State has taken a different stance. On the one hand, the plant is legal on the state level. However, individual counties and states can decide on its lawfulness. And, boy, do different areas have different ideas. If you’re traveling to Mississippi and want to enjoy some kratom, there are a few things that you should know.
The Rocky Start
In 2018, Mississippi legislators tried to ban kratom at the state level, but it didn’t pass. Lawmakers attempted to pass another piece of legislation the same year, but it, too, fell apart. Since kratom wasn’t banned uniformly across the state, each city and county had to decide how to handle the plant. Some places erroneously considered kratom a synthetic drug and quickly made it illegal. However, some areas took a bit more time to decide what to do with kratom.
