is kratom legal?

June 20, 2019

Kratom lovers use this all-natural plant for a variety of reasons. This plant grows in various regions throughout the Southeast Asian region, where it comes in a variety of strains. People native to these regions have used the plants for thousands of years for celebrations, ceremonies and to greet visitors.

Though the plant has been around for such a long time, it’s new and still relatively unknown in the U.S. This is why the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) initially tried to ban the sale of kratom in the U.S. The agency called kratom an “imminent hazard to public safety.” In August of 2016, the DEA announced its intention to make kratom a Schedule 1 drug — the same as heroin, LSD, marijuana, and ecstasy.

However, members of Congress urged the DEA to delay the ban and give the public a chance to provide input. As a result, the DEA withdrew its intent to make kratom a Schedule 1 drug and established a public comment period through Dec. 1, 2016.

At the time, the then-acting administrator of the DEA, Chuck Rosenberg, wrote in a preliminary document that the DEA “has received numerous comments from members of the public challenging the scheduling action and requesting that the agency consider those comments and accompanying information before taking further action.”

Though kratom is illegal in certain states and cities, it is still legal nationally. Before ordering any kratom, you should check your local and state laws and guidelines. Kratom Kaps is proud to sell a variety of some of the top-selling, most popular strains to provide customers with the very best.
